Helpful Ideas - Information Cards

The information on this page is for reference and educational purposes. There is no substitute for seeing a doctor.

The reason for information cards is to allow you the opportunity to educate strangers you meet quickly without embarrassing anyone. For example, my brother has a fixation on babies. He can spot a baby 5 aisles away in the grocery store. He will make a bee-line walk to the baby and get really close to the parent(s) and the baby. Luckily, he will cross his arms and does not touch anyone. About then, however, the parent(s) are uncomfortable and perhaps feel threatened. My brother will ask, " Is this your first?" It doesn't matter what the parent's say, my brother will come back and say, " Wait until they get into school! They will give you gray hairs. See my gray hairs!" Then my brother will point to the gray hairs on the side of his head and tell them that he has two daughters and walks off.

This would be the type of situation in which you could pull out a card and hand it to the parent(s). It can be a reassuring gesture.

Another example, we were out having dinner at a restaurant, and a female waitress came up to our table. Randy said, "Go away you smell!!" The waitress looked stunned and uncomfortable. If we would have had one of these cards we could have warned her.

Below are several different type of cards that you can use to create your own information card. I have created Word documents that you can copy and modify to meet your needs. There are also PDF format files that you should be able to use to print some standard business cards that you can use. You need is a printer to print these out.

All of these information cards are designed to use Avery Business Cards 5371 or 8371. A current list of labels you can use is listed below. I bought my business cards from Walmart and Office Max. If you purchase any labels, read the label instructions and practice on plain paper. Avery has good "General Printing Tips" to read to help you to succeed in printing labels.

List of Avery Labels that can be used

5371, 5376, 5377, 5871, 5872, 5873, 5876, 5877,5878, 5911, 8371, 8376, 8377, 28371, 27871, 8476, 8471, 8571, 8871, 8872, 8873, 8876, 8877, 8878, 28877, 28876, 8879, 28873

Some labels will say "Uses Template 8371" or "Uses Template 5371". These will work too.

You can also use regular paper and cut out the cards yourself or purchase business card stock paper and cut them out with some scissors. If you have a large paper cutter available cut the cards that way. Please watch your fingers if you do so!

I am still working on getting some PDF files created for users who do not have Word. There is a problem trying to get the lines to line up with a PDF files.

Doug S. shared this Information Card with us. His card provides some educational material, which is really nice.

My wife has a non-contagious but
terminal brain disease called
Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). As
opposed to Alzheimer’s Disease,
FTD attacks language and behavior
first, instead of memory.

Thank you for your understanding.
